Federation is a historic Australian bread wheat released in 1901 by William Farrer, combining early maturity, rust resistance, and milling quality that transformed Australian wheat exports. It became one of the most important cultivars of the early twentieth century in Australia and influenced later breeding worldwide. Federation flour supported Australian pan and hearth breads and export trade. Though obsolete commercially, it remains a landmark heritage cultivar for historians, gene banks, and specialty heritage bakers.
