Mongra

Spice

Mongra

S tier

Mongra is a Kashmiri saffron grade of deep-red stigma tops with little or no yellow style left attached—concentrated colour and aroma in short, dark threads. It is among the most valued local presentations, used when maximum dyeing power and fragrance per gram matter. Compared with lacha, mongra looks more uniformly red and fragmented. A few strands colour a pot of rice or milk dessert. Because it is premium, counterfeits and diluted mixes appear; colour should leach golden-orange, not instant brick red from dyes. Steep rather than fry dry at high heat.
