Grain
Calrose
B tier
Calrose is a California-bred medium-grain that became the West Coast default for everyday bowls, poke shops, and many Korean-American kitchens. It cooks moist with moderate stickiness—less refined than top Japanese premium rice, but reliable and affordable in large bags. The name covers a breeding lineage more than one pure line today. Rinse and rice-cook for weeknight table rice; works for musubi and casual sushi when premium short-grain is unavailable. Absorbs flavours well in sauced rice bowls. Widely available in US bulk bins and Asian groceries as a practical everyday japonica-style grain.
