Hemlock Reishi

A tier

Hemlock reishi is the common name for Ganoderma tsugae—shiny reddish brackets on dead or dying hemlocks, dried by Appalachian and northern foragers for tea. The brew is bitter, campfire-woody, and caffeine-free. Caps can look strikingly like Asian red reishi in a basket photo, which causes species confusion online. Harvest sustainably; dry thoroughly before storage. Simmer slices 45–90 minutes. Culinary role is tonic broth only—never sauté expecting meaty tenderness.
