Chinchilla rabbits—Standard, American, and Giant types—were bred for a grey-ticked coat resembling chinchilla fur, with meat as a useful by-product especially in Giant Chinchilla lines developed partly for size. They remain popular exhibition and small-farm animals. Meat from young Chinchillas is fine and mild; giants can supply larger roasts if not over-aged. Flavour tracks diet and age more than coat colour. Specialty breeders sometimes market fryers alongside pelt projects.
