Portugal quince is a historic European cultivar with large, rounded, orange-yellow fruit and excellent jelly quality—named across nurseries for Iberian associations. Perfume is strong; raw flesh astringent as usual. A classic “old orchard” quince still offered by heritage sellers. Prime for amber jellies and Portuguese-style preserves. Thin and water for big specimens. Early flowers risk frost inland. Keeps the species’ reputation for scenting linen closets when fruit sits in a bowl (uncooked decoration only if you like waste—better cook them).
