Button quail (usually Chinese painted quail, Synoicus chinensis) are tiny ornamental birds far smaller than coturnix—more novelty than meal. Meat yield is minimal; if cooked at all, treat as a single-bite delicacy requiring extreme care against drying. Most “culinary” interest is theoretical or for complete homestead use; eggs are likewise minute. Not a practical restaurant meat bird compared with japonica or bobwhite.
