Methley is an early Japanese-type plum with reddish-purple skin, deep red flesh, and sweet mild flavour that ripens before midsummer peaks. Fruit is medium and very juicy; trees often self-fruitful and productive, which made Methley a backyard favourite in warm-temperate zones. Acid is low when fully ripe—almost grape-sweet. Opens the plum season for fresh bowls and quick freezer packs. Skin can be tart if fruit is underripe; wait for full colour and softness. Excellent for small gardens that need a reliable early crop without a second polliniser in many climates.
