Sugarloaf

Fruit

Sugarloaf

A tier

Sugarloaf pineapples are white-to-pale-yellow fleshed types with notably low acidity and high sugar—soft, fragrant, and almost creamy compared with sharp Cayenne. Fruit shape is often conical; the eating experience is dessert-like and mild. Popular in parts of West Africa, Mexico, and tropical America under related local names. Best raw and chilled; the gentle acid means cooked applications can taste flat without added citrus or vinegar. Bruises easily and ships poorly relative to commercial gold hybrids, so quality is highest near production. Seek soft fragrance at the base before cutting.
