Jiro is a non-astringent Japanese persimmon similar in use to Fuyu—squat fruit, crisp sweet flesh, and home-garden popularity. Some strains show light interior browning flecks that are cosmetic. It offers an alternative non-astringent clone for orchard diversity and pollination planning with other kaki. Eat crisp in the same ways as Fuyu: salads, snacks, and plates. Slightly different sugar-acid balance rewards side-by-side tasting. Harvest coloured and firm for storage, or softer for immediate dessert.
