Waimanalo
A tier
Waimanalo is a Hawaiian papaya selection with rounder-to-pear fruit, yellow flesh, and a reputation for rich sweetness developed through University of Hawaii breeding. It offered an alternative plant habit and fruit form within the Solo market class. Flesh is fragrant and soft at peak, suited to fresh eating rather than long cold-chain abuse. Serve in wedges for brunch, purée for sorbets, or cube into coconut sticky-rice desserts. Like other Solo types, it colours as it ripens; green Waimanalo can still be shredded for cooked or salad use. Home growers in frost-free zones prize it when seed or plants are available.
