Tainung

Fruit

Tainung

A tier

Tainung covers a series of Taiwanese hybrid papayas (notably Tainung No. 1 and No. 2) with elongated fruit, reddish flesh, and high yields that reshaped commercial plantings across Asia and Latin America. Flesh is sweet and aromatic at full colour, with a texture that cubes cleanly for retail cut fruit. The name often appears on seed packets more than on consumer stickers. Excellent for large-batch smoothies, dried papaya strips, and everyday tropical fruit salads. Green Tainung fruit shreds well for som tam-style salads. Because hybrids are seed-propagated commercially, fruit shape is fairly uniform within a planting compared with open-pollinated landraces.
