Fruit
Kapoho
A tier
Kapoho is a classic Hawaiian Solo-line papaya associated with the Puna district’s yellow-fleshed sweet fruit before ringspot virus rewrote island production. Flesh is yellow-orange rather than deep red, with a clean tropical sweetness and soft melting texture when fully ripe. Older references treat Kapoho as a standard for traditional Hawaiian breakfast papaya. Best simply chilled and spooned; heavy spicing is unnecessary. Historical plantings were devastated by virus, so true Kapoho fruit is rarer than the name in old texts suggests—modern Solo-class fruit may be related resistant descendants. Seek local Hawaiian growers or specialty shippers for authentic character.

History
Kapoho Solo-type papaya was named and planted widely in Hawaii’s Puna growing area.
Kapoho dominated Hawaiian fresh papaya packs for mainland and local markets.
Ringspot virus collapsed much of the traditional Kapoho acreage.
Resistant replacements preserved Solo eating style more than identical Kapoho genetics.
