Papua Nutmeg
A tier
Papua nutmeg often denotes Myristica argentea (silver/Papua nutmeg), a related species with different fat and aroma balance—sometimes considered inferior for fine European baking but used regionally and in bulk extenders. Not identical to fragrans. Know what you are grating: argentea can taste flatter or differently resinous. Premium bakers specify fragrans. If a cheap “nutmeg” seems weak, species substitution may be why.
