Zwartbles sheep from the Netherlands are striking black animals with white blazes, bred mainly as maternal and show stock rather than industrial dairy ewes. Lactation is adequate to raise vigorous lambs and can yield a pleasant, medium-rich milk for small farm dairies. Flavour is soft and grassy when ewes graze lush Low Countries pasture. Hobby and pedigree keepers sometimes bottle Zwartbles milk for yoghurt and soft cheese sold at farm gates. Volumes rarely justify large plants. The breed’s visual appeal and calm nature keep it popular; milk remains a welcome side product rather than the selection target.
