Milking Shorthorn
B tier
Milking Shorthorn is the dairy-selected strain of the old English Shorthorn, kept for milk with respectable solids rather than pure beef. Milk is mild to creamy with good butterfat for a dual-purpose type, historically feeding farmhouse butter and cheese as well as the household pail. Today Milking Shorthorn milk appears in heritage and grass-based dairies seeking breed diversity. It suits table milk, farmhouse cheddar styles, and cultured products. Expect less industrial yield than Holstein but honest pasture flavour when herds are grass-fed.
