Dairy
British Alpine
B tier
British Alpine goats are black with white facial stripes and leg markings, selected in the United Kingdom for steady dairy yield and a clean, pale milk. Fat and protein sit in a balanced mid range—enough solids for yoghurt and tomme-style cheeses without the heavy creaminess of Nubian lines. Flavour is mild when animals are well fed, closer to commercial Saanen than to strongly aromatic desert breeds. Processors and smallholders value reliable lactation and adaptable temperament. In the kitchen the milk behaves like other European dairy-goat milks: quick acid set for soft cheese, good cultured drinks, and a lighter drinking glass than sheep or buffalo. British Alpine herds remain a core part of UK registered dairy-goat genetics and export stock.
