Fruit
Garcinia mangostana
S tier
Garcinia mangostana is purple mangosteen—the thick-rinded tropical fruit whose snow-white, segmented arils taste of peach, pineapple, and floral cream. Exterior hardens to deep purple when ripe; yellow latex stains from green fruit. Seeds may occur in segments; flavour is delicate and famous as a dessert pinnacle. Open with a scoring cut around the equator—do not crush segments. Chill lightly; serve same day. Cannot ship green for long without quality loss—true tree-ripe is rare far from tropics. Never freeze expecting intact texture. Pair simply; sugar is unnecessary when perfect.
