Targhee is an American dual-purpose range breed developed by the USDA from Rambouillet, Columbia, and Corriedale foundations for fine-to-medium wool and solid lamb production on western rangelands. Polled white-faced sheep flock well and handle extensive management. Targhee lambs finish to useful market weights with mild, clean flavour typical of western grass and sagebrush country. Purebred and crossbred carcasses suit American retail legs and loins; many ewes are bred to terminal black-faced sires when maximum conformation is required.
