Meat
Gotland
B tier
Gotland sheep—also called Gotland Pelt—are Swedish short-tails selected for lustrous grey curly pelts and decent meat, descending from the island of Gotland’s historic flocks with possible early cross influences. They are popular in northern Europe for both pelts and specialty lamb. Gotland lamb is mild-to-medium with fine grain and a soft fat typical of improved Nordic short-tails—excellent for roasting and Scandinavian open-face meal traditions. Pelt demand once dominated economics; meat quality remains high enough for farm restaurants and seasonal autumn sales.
