Meat
Clun Forest
B tier
Clun Forest sheep take their name from the Clun district of the Welsh Marches: dark-faced, clean-legged dual-purpose animals selected for easy care, good milkiness, and tidy carcasses on mixed border farms. They sit between hard hill breeds and soft lowland downs in both frame and management needs. Clun lamb is mild-to-medium in flavour with useful muscling for family roasts and chops without extreme fat. Ewes often rear twins well, so pure and crossbred lambs appear in farm shops across the Marches; the meat pairs with orchard fruit, cider gravies, and simple herb crusts.
