Fortunella is the kumquat genus (now often folded into Citrus in modern taxonomy)—small fruits eaten whole, sweet peel and tart flesh together. Species include nagami, marumi, and meiwa with different shapes and sweet-tart balances. Unique among common citrus for peel-first eating. Eat whole; slice into salads; candy or preserve whole. Raw contrast of sweet rind and acid pulp is the point. Tiny seeds may be spat or eaten.
