Fruit
Psidium guajava
S tier
Psidium guajava is common guava—tropical myrtle-family fruit with strong perfume, seedy central pulp, and flesh from white to pink-red depending on type. Skin is thin and usually eaten; aroma fills a room when ripe. Flavour is sweet-tart tropical with musky depth unmatched by milder supermarket fruit shipped hard. Eat out of hand, juice, paste (ate), or stew. Fully yellow soft fruit is ripe; green hard fruit is astringent. Seeds are crunchy and edible in quantity or strained for smooth juice. Tropical Americas origin; now pantropical. Refrigerate ripe fruit briefly only.
