Citrus paradisi is the grapefruit species—large citrus with bittersweet segmented flesh, from white to deep red, and a distinctive aromatic bitterness from naringin. Breakfast half-grapefruit, juicing, and segment salads define everyday use. Likely originated as a pomelo–sweet orange hybrid in the Caribbean. Broil with sugar, juice, supreme into salads, or reduce into bittersweet sauces. Peel oils are strong in cocktails. Watch drug–grapefruit interactions medicinally, not culinarily.
