Meat
Grain Finished
A tier
Grain-finished elk receive cereal or concentrate in the final feeding phase on some ranches to increase weight, slightly soften texture, and mellow the wildest edges of flavour. Practice is less universal than in beef but appears in commercial venison systems. Meat can eat a bit richer and more approachable while remaining far leaner than beef. Still cook like game—do not chase well-done. Useful for food-service consistency when pasture alone varies seasonally.
