Adams is a classic North American elderberry cultivar (American elder complex) selected for large clusters and productive bushes suited to juice and jam growing. Berries darken to purple-black with cooked musky flavour; umbels are heavy when nutrition is good. It underpinned many early US commercial and farmstead plantings. Harvest whole cymes when berries are fully dark; freeze on trays then strip. Cook thoroughly for syrup and jelly. Birds compete—net if needed.
