Fruit
Rubus chamaemorus
S tier
Rubus chamaemorus is cloudberry—the amber-gold arctic-boreal bramble fruit that ripens from red to soft apricot-orange on low dioecious plants in peatlands and tundra margins. Flavour is unique: tart-honeyed, floral, and slightly oily, nothing like raspberry. Berries are sparse, precious, and culturally iconic in Scandinavia and northern Canada. Eat fresh sparingly; more often cook into jam, liqueur, and cream desserts (cloudberry cream). Freezing preserves the short season. Never overpick wild stands—yields are naturally low. Sugar balances sharp edges; seeds are small but present. Golden colour in the jar is part of the luxury signal.
