Freedom Ranger
C tier
Freedom Ranger is a commercial slow- to moderate-growing coloured meat bird developed for pasture and free-range systems, often associated with Label Rouge–style genetics and North American alternative broiler markets. Birds typically show red or multi-coloured plumage, stronger legs, and better outdoor activity than white Cornish Cross, finishing in roughly nine to eleven weeks. Culinary results include firmer texture, richer flavour, and yellow to golden fat when birds forage and eat diverse diets. Favoured by small farms and pastured-poultry brands for whole roasting chickens that outperform commodity broilers in taste while remaining practical for seasonal batches.

History
French Label Rouge programmes selected coloured, slower-growing meat lines for outdoor flavour and welfare.
American pastured-poultry growers imported and marketed Ranger-type genetics as alternatives to Cornish Cross.
Freedom Ranger branding popularised red-feathered meat birds for free-range and farmers’ market sales.
Demand for higher-welfare, flavourful whole birds expanded Freedom Ranger and similar strains in North America.
Pastured and regenerative farms continued to prefer Rangers for livability outdoors and premium carcass quality.
