Mysore cardamom is an upright Elettaria type historically tied to Karnataka’s Mysore region, bearing bold green pods with high oil content and a round, sweet-camphor perfume favoured for premium export grades. Compared with sprawling Malabar plants, Mysore growth is erect with panicles held differently—grower taxonomy that correlates with pod quality reputations. In the cup of chai or the dough of pulla, Mysore lots often read as fuller and more luxurious. Choose deep green, heavy pods. Excellent for grinding into fresh powder for Scandinavian and Indian sweet work. As with all green cardamom, light and age bleach both colour and character.
