Common Bream
A tier
Common bream is the angler and market name for Abramis brama—slab-sided freshwater fish with lots of bones and mild white meat. Best eating is small-to-medium fish from clean gravel pits and lakes, fried or smoked. Score deeply if cooking on the bone, or commit to careful filleting. Pair with horseradish, dill, or smoke. Not sea bream (Sparidae)—a completely different culinary animal sharing a short English name.
