Highbush is the trade and garden class for tall cultivated blueberries producing large, mild-to-balanced berries that ship well. Texture is firm enough for clamshell retail; flavour is sweet with gentle tartness when fully ripe. Most fresh blueberries in global supermarkets are highbush types. Choose fully blue fruit; red-tinged berries are underripe. Rinse just before eating. Highbush also freezes well though wild lowbush often wins blind taste tests for intensity.
