Flanders Brown

Beverage

Flanders Brown

Flanders brown (Oud Bruin) is a malt-sweet, sour-aged Belgian brown ale—dark fruit, caramel, and acetic-lactic complexity from mixed fermentation and wood or long ageing. Less red-wine-like than Flanders red, often softer and sweeter. Use in pan sauces for pork and duck, or with cherries and shallots. Sweet-sour balance can tip vinegary if boiled hard—finish off heat. Distinct from bright kettle sours.
