Hulless Barley
A tier
Hulless (naked) barley is a genetic type whose hull threshes free at harvest, leaving a bran-covered kernel without the tough adhering hull of standard covered barley. Processing is simpler; the grain cooks as a whole-food barley with good nutrition and a clean cereal taste. Colour may be standard tan or specialty purple/black in related hulless lines. Treat like hulled whole barley in the pot—still needs time. Popular with whole-grain bakers and porridge cooks seeking easier milling. Not the same as pearl barley, which is abraded covered grain.
