Fruit
Manzano
A tier
Manzano (Apple banana) is a short, thick-fingered dessert banana that finishes with a tangy, apple-like acidity under the sweetness when ripe—skin yellows and blackens heavily at peak. Flesh is creamy and aromatic; underripe fruit is sharply starchy. Common in Latin American and Caribbean markets under several local names. Eat when nearly black-spotted for the true apple-banana character; yellow-green fruit will mislead. Excellent out of hand and in fruit salads that need a brighter banana note. Smaller portions than Cavendish—plan two fingers for a snack.
