Reed is a large, round, green-skinned summer avocado with thick pebbly skin, huge yield of pale yellow flesh, and a mild, slightly sweet nutty flavour. The seed is proportionally manageable given fruit size; one Reed can fill a family guacamole bowl. Skin stays green at ripeness—press carefully near the stem. Ideal when you need volume from fewer fruits. Popular in California farmers’ markets in late season after Hass peaks. Flesh is slightly more watery than peak Hass for some palates but excellent when fully soft-ripe.
