Fruit
Hass
S tier
Hass is the wrinkled black-skinned avocado that dominates world trade—medium pebbly fruit that turns from green to near black when ripe, with dense, nutty, high-oil yellow-green flesh and a relatively small seed. Flavour is rich and clean; texture is buttery without wateriness when properly matured. Year-round supply chains from multiple hemispheres keep Hass on shelves continuously. The default guacamole and toast avocado. Skin darkening is a useful ripeness cue unique among common types. Sensitive to cold damage in the field; postharvest cold chain is carefully managed. Most “avocado” in recipes silently assumes Hass chemistry and size.
