Fruit
Fuerte
A tier
Fuerte is a classic green-skinned hybrid avocado—pear-shaped, smooth thin skin that stays green when ripe, and creamy flesh with excellent flavour that many old-school growers still prefer to Hass. Oil content is high; the necked shape yields elegant slices. Skin does not blacken, so ripeness is judged only by gentle give. Winter-spring fruit in California-type climates historically paired with Hass for year-round supply. Thin skin marks and bruises more easily than Hass. Outstanding for composed plates where green colour and fine texture matter.

History
Carl Schmidt brought Fuerte budwood from Atlixco, Mexico, to California.
Fuerte became California’s leading commercial avocado before Hass dominance.
Hass overtook Fuerte in acreage while Fuerte remained a quality green-skin standard.
Specialty and local markets still sought Fuerte for flavour and shape.
