Rival is a Pacific Northwest-adapted apricot with bright orange freestone fruit, decent size, and flavour that performs better in cooler apricot margins than many California-only types. Flesh is juicy and aromatic when heat units cooperate; cool wet springs still challenge set and disease. Skin shows attractive blush over orange. Grown for local fresh markets in Washington and similar climates; also freezes and jams well. Not a long-haul export champion—sell and eat regionally. A practical choice where winters are cold enough for chill but summers are shorter than Central Valley heat.
